A Union Jack bet calculator settles a bet laid out like the flag. Nine selections go in a 3×3 grid, and every row, column and diagonal is a line: eight lines in all. A Union Jack treble is eight trebles, £8 at £1 a line. With 2/1, 5/2 and 3/1 across the top row all winning, the free calculator above returns £42 from that one line.
Choose the Trixie or Patent version in the bet type menu and the calculator adds the doubles and singles for every line.
Union Jack bet calculator: the grid
Selections are numbered left to right, top to bottom:
| 1 | 2 | 3 |
| 4 | 5 | 6 |
| 7 | 8 | 9 |
The eight lines are the three rows (1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8-9), the three columns (1-4-7, 2-5-8, 3-6-9) and the two diagonals (1-5-9, 3-5-7). Selection 5 sits in four lines, the corners in three and the edge middles in two. Put your strongest pick in the centre.
Treble, Trixie or Patent
| Bet | Each line is | Bets |
|---|---|---|
| Union Jack Treble | a treble | 8 |
| Union Jack Trixie | 3 doubles and a treble | 32 |
| Union Jack Patent | 3 singles, 3 doubles and a treble | 56 |
With the same top-row winners, the Trixie version returns £78.50 for £32 and the Patent £106.50 for £56. The treble needs a full line; the Patent pays something on a single winner. Two winners in the centre and a corner, say 1 and 5, return £44 from a Patent: three singles on selection 1, four on selection 5 and the double on the diagonal.
Is it a good bet?
It’s a fun one. Six winners can land two full lines, and a winner in the middle does a lot of work. But it doesn’t cover every combination the way a Heinz or a Goliath does, so plenty of results with several winners pay little. For full cover on fewer picks, the main bet calculator has every standard bet.
Union Jack bets look like a game. They cost like a bet: count the lines first. BeGambleAware.org is free and confidential if it stops being fun.
