Bracket
Tap a name to send it to the next round. Tap again to undo. Byes go to the top seeds so nobody plays an extra round.
A bracket generator turns a list of names into a knockout draw. Ten entrants make a 16-slot bracket: six byes in round one, then quarter-finals, semis and a final, nine matches in all. The free generator above seeds the list in order (1 plays the lowest seed, and 1 and 2 can only meet in the final) or draws it at random, and you click each winner through to the next round.
Bracket generator: seeding and byes
A knockout needs a power of two: 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 slots. When the entry count falls short, the gap is filled with byes, and the byes go to the top seeds so the best players aren’t punished with an extra game.
| Entrants | Bracket size | Byes | Rounds | Matches |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 8 | 2 | 3 | 5 |
| 10 | 16 | 6 | 4 | 9 |
| 12 | 16 | 4 | 4 | 11 |
| 20 | 32 | 12 | 5 | 19 |
| 48 | 64 | 16 | 6 | 47 |
There’s always one match fewer than the number of entrants, because every match knocks exactly one out.
Running the tournament
Tap a name to send it through. Change your mind and tap again: everything that depended on it clears. Name the event, print the bracket for the wall or copy it as text. It works for darts nights, pool and snooker, FIFA tournaments, chess, office pools and anything else with a winner and a loser.
