Breaks and frames
Points remaining counts 8 for every red left (red plus black), plus 27 for the colours. Snookers required assumes each snooker earns the minimum foul value of 4, or the value of the ball on once only colours are left. Saved in this browser only.
A snooker scoreboard that knows the rules. Tap red, then the black, and it adds 8, keeps the break going and asks for a red again. When the reds are gone it only lets you pot the colours in order, yellow to black. It’s free and works on a phone next to the table, and it shows the number every match comes down to: how many points are left, and whether the player behind needs snookers.
Using the snooker scoreboard
- Pots: tap the ball. Buttons that can’t be the ball on are greyed out, so you can’t add a pink after a pink.
- Miss / end break: the turn passes over and the break is saved for the stats.
- Foul: pick 4, 5, 6 or 7. The points go to the opponent and it’s their turn. If the ball on is worth more than you picked, it uses that.
- Red off the table: for a red that went down on a foul.
Pot the black at the end and the frame goes to whoever leads. Level? The black is re-spotted, as in the rules. Undo goes back one step at a time if someone taps the wrong ball.
Points remaining and snookers required
With 15 reds on the table there are 147 points available: 8 for every red with a black, plus 27 for the colours. The scoreboard counts it down after every shot.
| Reds left | Points remaining |
|---|---|
| 15 | 147 |
| 10 | 107 |
| 6 | 75 |
| 3 | 51 |
| 0 (yellow on) | 27 |
| Pink and black | 13 |
When the deficit is bigger than what’s on the table, you need snookers. Down 40 with blue, pink and black left (18 points), you’re 22 short. A foul on the blue gives away 5, so that’s 5 snookers needed. While reds are still up it uses the minimum foul of 4. It’s the sum commentators do in their heads, and it’s usually the moment a player concedes.
Frames, breaks and six-red
Set best of 3, 5, 7 or any odd number. The table under the board keeps each frame’s score, the highest break and how many 50-plus breaks each player has made. For a shorter game, switch to 10 reds or six-red snooker: the points remaining and maximum break change with it (75 for six-red).
