Players
Your teams
A random team generator splits a list of people into teams in one tap, with no arguing over who picks first. Ten players into two teams of five has 126 possible splits, so you won’t see the same line-up every week. The free generator above also balances teams by skill if you add a number after each name, and it can pick a random football club when that’s what you were really after.
Random team generator: three ways to split
- Number of teams: 17 people into 3 teams gives sides of 6, 6 and 5. Sizes never differ by more than one.
- Players per team: set 5 for five-a-side and the generator works out how many teams you need.
- Balanced by skill: type “Sam 7” or “Priya 4”. The best players are shared out first, each going to the weakest team that still has room. In the example above both teams finish on a skill total of 29.
Without skill numbers it’s a straight shuffle, using your browser’s secure random number generator. Every split is equally likely.
Random football team
Need a club for FIFA, a sweepstake forfeit or a pub quiz picture round? Press “Random football club” for one of 42 well-known clubs from England, Scotland, Europe and the Americas, each a 1 in 42 chance. For a full sweepstake draw with stakes and prizes, use the sweepstake generator.
Where people use it
Five-a-side and Sunday league, PE lessons, pub quiz tables, work away-days and online gaming squads. To pick one person instead of whole teams, the random name picker does that, and once the teams are set, the round robin generator writes the fixtures.
