This Scoop6 calculator works out the cost of a perm before you put it on. Pick one horse in four of the races and two in the other two, and you’ve got 1 × 2 × 1 × 1 × 2 × 1 = 4 lines. At £2 a line that’s £8. Add a third horse to one race and it’s 6 lines, £12. Every extra selection multiplies the cost rather than adding to it, which is why perms get expensive so quickly. The calculator above is free: type your selections per leg and the lines and cost update as you go.
How the Scoop6 calculator counts lines
A line is one horse from each of the six races. A perm covers every combination of your picks, so the number of lines is the product of the selections in each leg.
Lines = leg 1 × leg 2 × leg 3 × leg 4 × leg 5 × leg 6 Cost = lines × stake per line
The minimum line is usually £2. Go two-two-two-two-two-two and you’re at 64 lines, £128. Three in every race is 729 lines, £1,458. That’s the point where most people join a syndicate.
How the Scoop6 pays
Your stake goes into a win fund and a place fund. The win fund pays out only if someone picks all six winners, and it rolls over when nobody does, which is how it builds to big numbers on Saturdays. The place fund is shared among anyone whose six horses all placed. There’s often a bonus fund too, for winners who take on the following week’s bonus race.
The “random pick” figure on the calculator is just there for perspective. With 12 runners a race, one random line has about a 1 in 3 million chance of finding six winners. Form study does better than that, but not by as much as people hope.
Prefer win-and-place multiples on fewer races? The placepot calculator covers the six-race place bet, and the quaddie calculator does four-leg perms.
