The Irish Lotto odds calculator shows the real odds now that the game draws 6 numbers from 45. Match all six for the jackpot: 1 in 8,145,060 per line. Five plus the bonus ball is 1 in 1,357,510. That’s far better than most big jackpot games, about 5.5 times easier than one UK Lotto round, and nearly 3 times easier than a full two-round Lotto line. The free calculator above handles any match, any number of lines and repeat play.
Irish Lotto odds for every match
Seven balls come out of one drum: six winning numbers, then the bonus. The bonus only counts for lines that miss one of the six, which is why “5 + bonus” is a separate prize.
| Match | Odds per line |
|---|---|
| 6 | 1 in 8,145,060 |
| 5 + bonus ball | 1 in 1,357,510 |
| 5 | 1 in 35,724 |
| 4 + bonus ball | 1 in 14,290 |
| 4 | 1 in 772 |
| 3 + bonus ball | 1 in 579 |
| 3 | 1 in 48.3 |
| 2 + bonus ball | 1 in 64.4 |
| 2 | 1 in 7.4 |
The formula is C(6, m) × C(39, 6 − m) ÷ C(45, 6) for m matches, split by whether one of your other numbers is the bonus.
What changed with 45 balls
Before the switch from 47 to 45 numbers, the jackpot was 1 in 10,737,573. Dropping two balls cut that by almost a quarter. It also made smaller matches a bit more common, so lines pay out more often overall.
Plus and other add-ons are separate draws with their own odds, not covered here. Pick random numbers with the Irish Lotto number generator, or compare games with which lottery has the best odds.
At Christmas, the Millionaire Raffle offers a €1 million prize at far better odds than the Lotto jackpot.
