A Warhammer dice calculator does the mathhammer for you before you commit a unit. Twenty shots hitting on 3+ gives about 13 hits. At strength 4 against toughness 4 you wound on 4+, so about 6.7 wounds. Against a 3+ save with AP-1 they save on 4+, so roughly 3.3 get through. One damage each: 3.3 dead models on average. The free calculator above runs that chain for any profile, with rerolls, invulnerable saves and Feel No Pain.
How the Warhammer dice calculator works
Each step is a probability multiplied into the next:
Hits = attacks × (7 − hit target) ÷ 6 Wounds = hits × wound chance (from strength vs toughness) Failed saves = wounds × chance the save fails Damage = failed saves × damage × chance Feel No Pain fails
The wound roll follows the usual chart: S at least double T wounds on 2+, S greater than T on 3+, equal on 4+, lower on 5+, and half or less on 6+. The save is the armour save worsened by AP, or the invulnerable save if that’s better, and a roll of 1 always fails.
Rerolling 1s adds a sixth of your success chance again; rerolling all failures adds the miss chance times the success chance. On a 3+ to hit, rerolling 1s turns 66.7% into 77.8%, and full rerolls take it to 88.9%.
Models killed
Damage doesn’t carry over between models, so the calculator rounds kills per model. Two-damage shots into three-wound models need two failed saves per kill, the same as into four-wound models. That’s why matching damage to wounds matters so much when you pick targets.
These are averages. A squad of ten rolls is swingy, and you’ll beat or miss the average by a few models a lot of the time. For a full distribution of totals, the dice probability calculator handles any pool of dice.
